New Zealand and United Kingdom have negotiated additional access for NZ sheepmeat products to be exported to the UK under the terms of a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) concluded in February 2022.

The FTA provides New Zealand access to export 35,000 tonnes (carcase weight equivalent) of sheepmeat products to the United Kingdom from year one, increasing to 50,000 tonnes (cwe) in year five to fifteen following entry into force of the NZ-UK FTA.

Entry into force of the NZ-UK FTA occurred on 31 May 2023.

However, it is a condition of the UK-NZ FTA this FTA sheepmeat quota is unable to be accessed until 90% of the existing World Trade Organisation (WTO) UK Sheepmeat and Goatmeat quota is utilised.
