Annually, 114,205 tonnes (carcass weight equivalent) of New Zealand sheepmeat and goatmeat can be exported to the United Kingdom at zero duty. NZ's access will reduce to 102,620 tonnes (cwe) effective 1 January 2024.

Imports within the Tariff Rate Quota (TRQ) are referred to as “in-quota” and are administered by the New Zealand Meat Board.

Product imported outside the quota is subject to an out-of-quota tariff rate of 12.0% + 75.0-260.0 GBP per 100kg/net. This is administered by the UK and collected at point of entry.

The Quota Year runs from 1 January to 31 December. Prior to the year’s start, the Board makes quota allocations to Qualifying Companies and New Entrants. This is done in accordance with the Quota Allowance Allocation System, which can be found on page 13 of the UK Sheepmeat and Goatmeat Tariff Rate Quota Manual.
